Looks like my son got the stomach virus I had last weekend. He seems to be recovering and I should be back tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHey Mr. Chappel, whats your runescape account.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't do Runescape. Thanks for the thought, though.
ReplyDeleteIs this all due tommorow considering its about 3 chapters (and i thought you said you wouldnt put this cover on!)?
ReplyDeleteI changed my mind about the picture. A little scary, eh? I thought since we have such CUTE BUNNIES just below the post it would balance things out. If I get enough comments from people who don't like it, I'll be glad to take it down. There's no blood in it or anything.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is due tomorrow. The good news is that you had two days off, and you already read the chapters as well as the vocab during class.
The paragraphs shouldn't be too difficult if you paid attention.
Would it be cheating if we used SparkNotes?
ReplyDeleteHey tom, could i borrow the game for the mac? I really want ex. credit and you said you had multiple copies.
ReplyDeleteQUESTION: Would it be cheating if we used SparkNotes?
ReplyDeleteANSWER: It depends.
- For the comprehension test? Yeah. It's open book. That would be cheating.
- As an alternative to actually reading the novel? Yeah, that would be cheating. You're expected to read the source to grow as a reader. You can't become a better reader if you don't read the material.
- As a resource to use, after you read the novel? Maybe. It depends...
... If you are truly "stuck" on a question, I have no issue with you using Sparknotes as a resource.
However, the best way to learn about a book is to go back to the source and to SERIOUSLY THINK about the words and the meaning on the page.
If you get in the habit of always taking shortcuts, you will deprive your brain of the chance to grow stronger.
Many, many students have commented that these questions are not that hard if you read and paid attention.
If you are really struggling, I hope you see that as an important moment of recognition. Doing well on this unit should be EVEN MORE important to you personally. You can do this.
If you succeed at climbing this mountain here and now, you'll be SO MUCH BETTER OFF when faced with the many mountains yet to come in your future.
And don't forget, there are many who are willing to help you -- including me. :)
i do not understand this question
ReplyDeleteWhat two steps does Wargrave want to take to ensure the safety of the five remaining guests?
I have read the question over and over and read the chapter a few times over and still do not understand.
I just wanted to point out that I think you may have made a mistake when you said "Five remaining guests" in question # 2. I could be wrong, but in chapter 12 on the 185th page Wargrave says: "four." Just wanted to see if that was what you meant.
ReplyDeleteoh, never mind. I understand what ou meant
ReplyDeletewhat does question 5 mean?
ReplyDeletethe pic scares me
ReplyDeleteAHH
who is the guy looking though!?
btw im getting confused on which info was in each chapter.
Livie, I'll double check that when I get a free moment. It could have meant five INCLUDING Wargrave.
ReplyDeleteWas wondering if every chapter was due tomorrow as five points each or if all the 5 questions would just count as one journal as 5 points? Also will we have questions over the break becausei wont be able to get on the internet so i wouldnt be able to do the questions.
ReplyDeleteThe picture looks cool! I really think that it fits the theme.
ReplyDeleteHow do you come up with these questions?
ReplyDeleteQUESTIONS: Was wondering if every chapter was due tomorrow as five points each or if all the 5 questions would just count as one journal as 5 points?
ReplyDeleteAlso will we have questions over the break becausei wont be able to get on the internet so i wouldnt be able to do the questions.
ANSWERS: I'm not sure. I was going to make all five just worth five points, but now that you mention it... I'll consider doing it the other way. Nice idea.
I'll have the questions for Chapter XIV up tomorrow around lunch, as normal. There won't be any additional questions after Friday until we get back.
In the picture I think it is Lombard holding the revolver, and his colored reflection is in the glass of the door. The face his is covering may be the murderer, or it could be his own.
ReplyDeleteI think the boy ghost in the lower corner is Cyril Oglvee (sp?). The other three phantoms/zombies could be the man MacArthur sent to his death, the maid Brent fired, and one the woman the Rogers' allegedly knocked off. Just guessing, really.
are we going to be able to print out the blog work in your room during rec.
ReplyDeleteQ: are we going to be able to print out the blog work in your room during rec.
ReplyDeleteA: Sure! Good idea.
Q: How do you come up with these questions?
A: I have several different Teacher sources that I pull from, including work that most excellent students have done in the past and advanced work I did when reading the book myself.
I attempt to use the questions as a way to highlight important information so you guys don't miss stuff that I think matters.
I attempt to ask questions that connect to literary concepts like imagery, foreshadowing, and theme.
I also attempt to find creative, out of the box ways to enjoy the story on different levels, like visually or imagining sounds.
Finally, I try to use the questions as a tool to help you become aware of your own learning patterns and processes so you can become better life long learners.
Great question. Thank you!
feel betta
ReplyDeleteim not sure what you mean by "what chances does Lombard give Blore of surviving?" After reading the chapter a few times i still dont understand it.
ReplyDeleteQ: im not sure what you mean by "what chances does Lombard give Blore of surviving?" After reading the chapter a few times i still dont understand it.
ReplyDeleteA: Everyone is being killed one by one. Everyone presumably has a chance to survive. Different people might have different chances based upon how smart, resourceful and strong they are. Does that help?
Yes it does. Thanks!
ReplyDelete1) Picture = not scary
ReplyDelete2) I can't think of anyone that could put the seaweed in Vera's room.
3) In #4 is it talking about when everyone comes downstairs and Wargrave is dead in the chair dressed as a judge?
4) I can't think of anything for #5.
Lola - I can't give you the answers, but you're on the right track. For #5 you could use Google to see if there is another meaning for Red Herring. That might help. There's the literal fish, and then there's something else entirely...
ReplyDeleteMr. Chappell when i checked earlier today in class there wasn't anything posted, which i can understand you probaly busy. ReplyDeleteANSWER: Well, you could either take a zero or turn it in late for half credit. It sounds like your decision to not bring your book didn't work out like you thought it would.
Well can i write it out on paper and get full crediit 4 it stil?
ReplyDeleteSure!
ReplyDeletei don't like the picture mr chappell
ReplyDeleteit's kind of scairy
I do not understand #5 at all.. are we supposed to write the two meanings? Or are we supposed to write the two meanings and how they connect to the book? I'm really confused!
