Part 2, Chapters 14 - 19, pages 300 - 337


Directions:  Answer the following questions with at least one complete sentence and submit your answers to Turnitin.com before 2/12/18 at 8:15 am for full credit.  DO NOT recopy the questions in your final answer submission -- only submit your own original answers.

Part 2, Chapter 14
1. Why does Mike feel guilty? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.
2. “But her gaze dropped to the ground” (303). What does this say about Mrs. Sturbridge?
3. What did Mr. Howard remind Mrs. Sturbridge about her father‛s wishes?
4. What has Mr. Howard done to stick by Mrs. Sturbridge‛s side?
5. Mike wonders a few questions at the end of the chapter: What did her dead father have to do with their adoption? Who was Henry? And what was she trying to undo? What do you think are the answers to these questions? Use evidence from the text to support your thinking.

7. What does Frankie find out about the relationship between Mr. Howard and Eunie?

9. Why did Eunie‛s father change his will? What stipulations are in his will?
10. How are Mr. Howard, the lawyers, Mrs. Potter, Mr. Potter, and Eunie all guilty in this situation? Hint: What are they keeping from Mike and Frankie?
11. Why did Mr. Howard decide to bring both Mike and Frankie back to the house? Use evidence to support your answer.
12. Why does Mr. Howard believe that things with Eunie could be different for Mike and Frankie?
13. Why is Mr. Howard not adopting Mike and Frankie?
14. “... staring at the Good Humor bar, watching the chocolate slide from the vanilla center. He held it over the grass as it fell apart: first the shell and then the insides” (313). How can this line mean something deeper?

25. “But Mike knew it wasn‛t a miracle” (337). Do you think this was a miracle? Why or why not? Use evidence to support your answer.
